#Reset mac to factory settings el capitan update
I had a search for the el Capitan update affecting apache and saw half a dozen posts with good feedback.

You can see why I would be so very grateful for advice on how to get round all this.So I did the update to El Capitan on my Imac, all of a sudden anything in my localhost would not respond which I figured was due to the update. I even doubt that upgrading from that 2008 OS X to 10.6, for which I do have the CD, would work without my going through the intervening versions first.

And that even if I had it, the version of OS X which I could Clean Install on the machine from that 2008 CD, would not enable me to upgrade to El Capitan, the General Requirements for which on the Apple upgrade info page specify "OS X v10.6.8 or later". My problem is that in the course of a housemove the original OS X install CD for the 2008 machine got lost. That's all worked fine, and that's the process I've wanted to reproduce with my 2008 machine. The used iMac I've bought to replace my 2008 machine had originally been released with Mavericks installed, from which the seller, who'd upgraded it to El Capitan for his own use, had re-upgraded it to a clean copy of El Capitan for the sale, to the point in the process where I as purchaser could put in my details, including my Apple ID. Thanks Killhippie (what a fun but chilling name!) But maybe you, or somebody else in the Community, will tell me that I only think I'm caught in this problem because I misunderstand what's involved.

That's seems to me the Catch 22 x 2 that I'm trying to get round. Nor may I be able even to install for the purpose the OS X 10.6 which, as I also mentioned, I have on its original Apple CD, because OS X 10.6 itself requires in order to install an OS X more recent to itself on the machine than is the original OS X on my 2008 iMac. Because of this I'm worried that if I take it back to its 2008 factory settings, then I'll find that I can't move on to installing El Capitan, which seems to require OS X 10.6.8 or later installed on the iMac to be able to take it. "You can restore your Mac to factory settings by erasing your Mac, then reinstalling OS X using the built-in recovery disk." Unfortunately, the link you sent takes me to the instructions I mentioned having seen in my original posting and which, as I said there, start with

In addition to this I have a CD of OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.Īs I don’t want to mess things up, I’d be grateful for advice on how to proceed in order to arrive at a clean-installed 10.11.1 El Capitan as the OS X on my iMac. Under Disk Images its shows Apple Disk Image Media 2.15 GB Disk Image External Physical Disk, and as its content the OS X Base System. When I re-start the Mac holding down Command and R and get to Disk Utility, it shows under Internal the 250.06 GB SATA Physical Disk, with Macintosh HD as its content.

I’m worried that if I revert to that, I wouldn’t be able to move to re-installing El Capitan, as it requires as installed OS X 10.6.8 or later. However these start with the sentence "You can restore your Mac to factory settings by erasing your Mac, then reinstalling OS X using the built-in recovery disk,” and the factory setting on my Mac would be that from 2008. I can find instructions on how to erase and reinstall El Capitan.

To do this I want to clear my files and software out of the machine by doing a clean install of El Capitan. I have an early 2008 iMac, 2.4GHz 4GB RAM, OS X upgraded to El Capitan 10.11.1, which I want to sell.
